Finding Images

Here are some suggestions for finding images online. Visit the library for necessary passwords.

From the Lincoln-Way West web Site, select “Library”. Next, select “Electronic Databases.” http://www.lw210.org/west/library/

AP Images: This image database has contemporary and historical photos from the Associated Press.

Ebsco: These images are mostly from magazine and newspaper articles. Select Ebsco and then EbscoHost Web. Check the boxes next to the databases within Ebsco that you would like to search. For general searches, use MAS Ultra and Newspaper Source. Select “Images” or “More” on the top of the page. Type your topic and search.

Another tip:

In Google or another search engine, add terms such as jpeg, gif, photo* or picture to narrow your search.

New Moon Book Discussion – Wednesday, November 18

If you have read the Twilight books, come to a book discussion about the book New Moon by Stephenie Meyer on Wednesday, November 18 after school in the library.

Join the book discussion for Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins on Wednesday, December 2. Pick up a copy of the book in the library.

You can actually read the Chicago Tribune online for free. True. You could always read the latest articles online. But now you can read it page by page as if you were viewing the print version only it is right there on your computer exactly as it looks in print. And you can access past issues since August. The next time your teacher asks you to bring a newspaper article to class, get online and print one. What Your Librarian is Reading

I most recently finished The Secret by Rhonda Byrne . It is about the law of attraction and positive thinking. I’m not sure I believe all of it, but anything that makes you change your attitude and be more positive can’t be too bad. Oh wait. They say if you don’t completely believe it it won’t work. I believe.

Last Sunday I decided to read six books. Of course, they were all under 200 pages and one was 78 pages with mostly pictures. My favorite was Sweethearts by Zarr where a girl’s best friend moved away in fifth grade only to return when she is in high school after completely reinventing herself. Does she start a relationship with her former friend? How did he find her and what happened to make him move so suddenly without telling her? It made me miss the friends I remember when I was in preschool and first grade. The others were okay, but nothing memorable. I am excited to read If I Stay next.
